In 2025, Custer County had a full-time County Attorney, a full-time Deputy (starting in March), and an additional full-time Deputy sworn in by October.
In 2026, as of April 11, the Custer County Attorney’s office is on track to have lower cases than they did in 2025. The goal seems to be to spend as much money as possible to accomplish as little as possible. Each of the three other counties County Attorney’s filed more cases personally than the Custer County Attorney’s entire office. Crime in Custer County has not been cut in half in the last five years. Crimes are not being charged and punished. Entire categories of crimes are not being charged.
Only two categories of crimes are being charged: Crimes where law enforcement make an arrest, Driving Under the Influence for example, or crimes that are from before the current County Attorney’s tenure and are 4 to 12 years old. Current cases involving drugs, child abuse, sexual assault, and others are being ignored.
I have much more information on the crimes being charged and the crimes being ignored in Custer County that will be on this website over the summer. It is all public information and can be obtained through the Clerk of Courts Office or online through the Montana Judicial Branch.
